How to Turn Off “Private Wi-Fi Address” on MacBook / iPad

Introduction

　In macOS Sequoia 15 and iPadOS 14 or later, a feature has been added to set a temporary MAC address (Private Wi-Fi Address). In addition, a feature that automatically changes the MAC address periodically continues to be included.

　While this feature enhances privacy protection, the periodic changing of the MAC address has caused instances where users are unable to connect to the MUSIC network.

If you are using a MacBook or iPad for which you have already submitted a MUSIC network utilization application, and you experience issues such as suddenly being unable to access the internet, please follow the steps below to set the Private Wi-Fi Address to “Off”.

MacBook (PC) Setup Steps

    1. System Settings

    From the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen, select “System Settings”.

    MUSIC Details

    Select “Wi-Fi” in the left sidebar. From the network list on the right, click “Details…” (or the three-dot icon) next to “MUSIC”.

    Private Wi-Fi Address “Off”

    From the “Private Wi-Fi address” drop-down menu, select “Off” and click “OK”.

    Note: Private address options include “Off”, “Fixed”, and “Rotating”. Choosing “Fixed” or “Rotating” masks your device’s actual MAC address, which will prevent you from connecting to the MUSIC network even if you connect to it. Please make sure to select “Off”.

    When a warning confirmation message appears, click “Turn Off”.

    Final Confirmation

    Confirm that the Private Wi-Fi address is set to “Off”, then click “OK”.

    The Private Wi-Fi address is now turned off.

Please connect to the MUSIC network and check if you can use the internet.　

iPad (Tablet) Setup Steps

    Settings App

    Open the “Settings” app.

    MUSIC Details

    In the sidebar, select “Wi-Fi”, and then tap the “Details” (or “i” icon) next to “MUSIC”.

    Private Wi-Fi Address “Off”

    If the “Private Wi-Fi address” is set to anything other than “Off”, tap the setting to change it. Select “Off” from the list.

    If a message regarding tracking appears, tap “Allow Tracking”.

    Final Confirmation

    Verify that “Off” is checked, then tap “< MUSIC” to go back.

    Confirm that the Private Wi-Fi address is successfully set to “Off”.

　The Private Wi-Fi address is now turned off.

Please connect to the MUSIC network and check if you can use the internet.
